OKC businesswoman to participate in women’s leadership conference in Edmond
OKLAHOMA CITY – NOVEMBER 12, 2009 – Oklahoma City businesswoman and serial entrepreneur Terry Neese will speak about mentorship at an inaugural women’s leadership conference, hosted by the Edmond Chamber of Commerce on Nov. 13.
Neese, founder and CEO of the nonprofit Institute for Economic Empowerment of Women, will present during the opening session at 9 a.m., which includes presentations from U.S. Representative Mary Fallin, R-Oklahoma City, as well as Edmond Mayor Patrice Douglas.
The conference will be held from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Nigh University Center at the University of Central Oklahoma. Cost is $50.
“I am honored to be a part of this historic conference, as a woman and as an Oklahoman.” Neese said. “Women are continuing to blaze the path of leadership – in the workplace and in the home. Being a mentor truly means being a leader, because as we pay forward our blessings, we help encourage and support others who are on the same journey.”
Neese created the PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS program that focuses on business education and mentorship for women entrepreneurs from Afghanistan and Rwanda.
Through the program, Oklahoma businesswomen have mentored women from these war-torn countries for the past three years.
“Mentorship is the heart and soul of PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS,” Neese explained. “Education in the classroom is important, but going a step further and helping our Afghan and Rwanda students apply what they have learned to real-life situations through mentorship takes our program to the next level.”
