Jane Uwera, EY’s Mary Nguyen and Homa Usmany visit during the EY sponsored dinner at Leadership Development Boot Camp, July 9, 2015.

Log on to EY’s (Ernst & Young) website and you will see their tagline, “Building a better working world.” What an uplifting mission! EY has been working with PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® students during leadership development in Dallas, TX, for three years now. Amy Thompson, EY Southwest Region Community Engagement Manager, has embraced her role of coordinating coaches from within her company to work one-on-one with Leadership Development students from Afghanistan and Rwanda to perfect financial statements and incorporate the data into business plans, setting objectives and goals along the way. In fact, Amy gets requests from across the United States – from New York to California – to participate in our July PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® program.

To ensure success in the short 3.5 hours that PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® students have with their EY coaches, Amy asks all volunteers to attend a special themed dinner to get to know their students the night before we dig in to work. Business plans have been shared in advance with each coach. Then, on Boot Camp financials day, EY coaches arrive early to hear Northwood University professor, Carla Allen, lecture to the class on analysis and budget forecasting - they want to make sure that they are in sync with the curriculum level and specific needs of each student.

EY’s Yanchu Li and Arzoo Nooristani present their financial solutions during Leadership Development Boot Camp, July 10, 2015.

After lunch, the group is back to work in one-on-one time between the coach and student. By the way, EY is so smart that they even have coach interns sit in on the discussion with their seasoned mentors so that more can participate each year. To hear the recap of each group discussion is truly amazing. Everyone is excited about their new learning experience and the ideas generated.

PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® appreciates the financial and knowledge support from EY. And this past July 2015, we also had the privilege of hearing from Cydney Roach, EY Advisory Services, on creating your own headline. Thank you for your support EY!
